The kids are going back to school soon in the Charleston area. Yeah!!  I believe August 21 st is the start date for most kids in Dorchester County.  Parents and kids are scavaging for school supplies and stocking up on clothes to start the new year.  Already the stores are short on composition notebooks and blue folders.  Having three kids from first grade to eight grade makes for and interesting start, it took half a day to register them for school.  The middle schools are starting an athletic program which will include football, softball, basketball and baseball.  This is different from the year before when only basketball and baseball were offered to the 7th and 8th graders. 

 

When starting the school year, you should always look back and reflect on the summer vacation.  I tried to keep the boys busy with as many econonmical activities as possible.  By far the favorite activity was the Whirlin waters water park.  We got into the park two for the price of one. on Tuesday.  This was a great deal and everyone had fun.  The Riverdogs were a favorite of this clan.  We always try to take in a few games while we are on Summer break.  This year we stayed local for our family vacation and went to Seabrook Island for the week.  We rented a cute bungalow on the Island.  Everything was very beautiful, the beaches, the pool, you name it. The kids loved the ice cream shop that was next to the pool.  We felt very pampered and relaxed and the best thing was the ride home was only thirty minutes.  You can't beat that.  On the way home we stopped for the first time for the kids to see the Angel Oak on John's Island.  The tree is amazing and if you have never been it is worth going to see atleast once in your life.  It grows and creeps around spreading it branches making you feel very small in this world.  All in all it was a great summer.
